The Hillswick practice is the most northerly practice on the mainland of Shetland and is 35 miles north of Lerwick. Hillswick Health Centre is a purpose built Shetland Health  Board  Building, built in 1993.  It has two consulting rooms and large treatment room with consulting space and full emergency equipment, video conferencing, library, staff room, tea and  coffee facilities for patients, dispensary and surgery garden used by patients and community.

 

The surgery is built to a high standard and has a fantastic view over the West Ayre, a local beach, to the cliffs of Eshaness and beyond. It is situated centrally in Hillswick close to the shop, hotel and church.

 

In 1998, a garden was created for the community and won an environmental award. It incorporates traditional flowers, medicinal herbs and drystone dykes. A few years later, another garden area was added when the Shetland Conservation Volunteers planted trees and flowers. There is a gallery of photographs of the gardens.
