Hillswick Surgery

This is a very happy, friendly, democratic practice where we all have an input into patient care, our practice philosophy being ‘Putting Patients First’. We are passionate about training and demonstrating what a good option rural/single handed practice can be. We have good community links and work well as a team. You will have great support in one of Britain’s most northerly isolated practices, but good fun as well. You will experience the highs and lows of General  Practice. You will have patients who will truly appreciate your call, but will never call you out unnecessarily.

We would encourage kind, compassionate students to come to Hillswick, or at least students who aspire to be.

Birdwatchers, swimmers, lovers of the great out doors  and knitters especially welcome!

The surgery is set above a beach of perfect white sand, and the view from the consulting rooms is probably the best in Britain. The Health Centre is virtually new, and extremely well kitted out with full emergency equipment (the GPs are both BASICS trained). We may be very rural , but we have state of the art IT , Internet and Videoconferencing facilities.

The weather can be hell but the scenery is to die for. While here we would encourage you to get the most you can from your time in Shetland, socially, personally and professionally. We don’t have the same rain as the west of Scotland, nor the midges, and where else in Britain are there ponies in the car park.

We have recently stopped training registrars for but will regularly take Medical students when Covid has abated.
